The structure of the Amagerfaelled development is defined by Urban islands which are delineated by a water course. These islands, of which there are five in total, create independent community clusters within the larger site and incorporate 2,000 homes, as well as shops, local schools, daycares and much more. Structures in the development are of a variety of height and density (from 2 to 7 storeys), providing shelter from southerly and westerly winds as well as maintaining optimal sunlight and maximizing views throughout.
Nature is placed at the heart and forefront of this development. All buildings are focused on green space with the goal of contributing to better quality of life.
Callout Information:
VERTICAL CAR PARK
The islands each have a vertical car park, eliminating the trials of traffic from everyday life and creating a far more desirable streetscape – instead the communities are pedestrianized and the residents can utilize the pedestrian and cycle links connecting all of the neighborhoods.
SUSTAINABLE URBAN DRAINAGE
As previously mentioned, the islands are divided by a water course. This water course aids in flood prevention and improves water retention.
PUBLIC LOOP
Pedestrians and cyclists are centered in this development, and a public loop enables their movement throughout the site and connects the island districts. Within the public loop there are promenades, local streets, and various passages and connections.
