Suburban development has driven land-use patterns all over the world - in most cases leading to extreme sprawling conditions and ecological destruction. Though we have learned much about the perils of this type of development - unfortunately, not much has changed in the way we pursue development in many parts of the world. Now that we have an awareness of the climate and social issues that occur with typical suburban development, we should look to alternative ways of living that can provide a template for a more equitable social and environmental future.
